Peak Kazbegi
Location – North Georgia (East
Caucasus)
Altitude: 5047 m.
Difficulty rating: Medium “amateur”
Kazbegi is an extinct volcanic dome
and one of the highest and most beautiful peaks of the Caucasus Mountain Range
located in relative isolation at the Eastern Caucasus.
It raises near the Russian border in northern Georgia,
where the Georgians call it Mkinvartsveri – “Ice Mountain”
due to its eternal coverage with snow and ice.
Day 1: Arrival. Meeting at Tbilisi International
Airport. Transfer to hotel.
Day 2: Drive from Tbilisi to Kazbegi. Visit to Sameba Church.
Overnight at a family hotel at an altitude of 1700 m.
Day 3: Ascend to the camping lodge (peak Kazbegiskalta)
via Gergeti glacier (3700 m above sea level). Overnight at a highland hotel named
“Bethlehem Hut”.
Day
4: Acclimatization (visit to Sameba Church
4000m above sea level).
Day 5: Climb up to Kazbegi peak
(“Mkinvartsveri” – 5047 m above sea level). Return to the highland hotel in the
evening.
Day 6: Walk down to Kazbegi. Return to
Tbilisi.
Day 7: Departure.
