Svaneti

 

This is one of the best and demanding trekking itineraries in Georgia. Svaneti is probably the most fascinating area in the Caucasus for adventurous travelers, providing the opportunity for trekking and climbing some of the highest peaks of Europe and exploring the remote villages with their unique architecture and the ancient culture preserved for centuries.

 

Cross several mountain passes over 3000 meters, enjoy the views of such famous peaks as Ushba, Tetnuldi and Shkhara.

 

Day 1: Arrival. Meeting at Tbilisi International Airport. Transfer to hotel.

 

Day 2: Drive from Tbilisi to Kutaisi to Mestia via Zugdidi. Overnight at family hotel in Mestia.

 

Day 3: Visit to Mestia Museum; Ascend to Koruldi (alpine lakes). Overnight at family hotel in Mestia.

 

Day 4: Drive from Mestia up to Ushguli (2200 m above sea level), walk up to the source of the river Enguri (2700 m above sea level) and the foot of the peak Shkhara (5068 m above sea level). Overnight in tents.

 

Day 5: Walk down to Ushguli and drive back to Tbilisi.

 

Day 6: Departure.
